Specifying the foreseen actions to exceed the plan of production of honey up to 260 tons in the year, it was a key issue during the plenary session with apicultural producers of Guantanamo province.
Magdiel Méndez Lobaina, director of the Guantanamo Business Base Unit of Apiculture, highlighted the promising results at the end of August after obtaining 29 tons over the planned 117.8, mostly of first quality, as well as propolis and queen bees (104).
Notwithstanding these results, Lázaro Bruno Castro, director of the Cuban Apicultural Company, urged to work with greater creativity to raise the number of hives in 2018 to more than 12,700 and, in the medium term, to exceed 15,000 honeycombs for exceeding 350 tons per year.
The national director indicated to make a diagnosis in Baracoa Municipality, where only red propolis is achieved, whose tonne is quoted at 17 thousand dollars in the international market, three times more than honey, to prioritize the attention to its producers.
During the plenary session, it was announced the facilities offered by this entity, the guarantor for beekeepers, their apiaries and collection.
