The bravery of a bull dominated by the skills of a bullfighter was the magical representation of the sculpture entitled Rodeo, by the artist from Santiago de Cuba Inmer Montero Aguilera, grand prize winner of the National Wood Carving Contest Guayacán 2015 which concluded last Sunday in Baracoa.
The bravery of a bull dominated by the skills of a bullfighter was the magical representation of the sculpture entitled Rodeo, by the artist from Santiago de Cuba Inmer Montero Aguilera, grand prize winner of the National Wood Carving Contest Guayacán 2015 which concluded last Sunday in Baracoa.
This piece, which seems to move, presents a fresh and new subject for the territory, with a stylized line and a well structured block, an aspect different from the other works of the expo-competition.
The top prize is a creation grant that gives the winner the opportunity to exhibit personal works for the next edition, and integrate the evaluation committee of the edition.
Montero Aguilera also deserved the awards of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the National Union of Historians of the country in this municipality; La Pedrá Humor Award; and the third place in the creative workshop Ramón Domínguez in memoriam.
Important prizes of the competition were given to the Camagüeyano Arnolis Mejías Morales, with his work Despertar la melodía, and the baracoeso Edelcio Matos Matos with the piece Entre Rumba, tambor y ron.
Special mentions received the competing works by the artisans of Baracoa Andreys Guilarte Romero; Juan Rodríguez Navarro, also stimulated by the Center of Music and the House of Culture of the municipality; and Jorge Luis Noa Argüelles, deserver of the award given by Raúl Gómez García Municipal Library.
The jury of the event decided that the work Pasado by Noa Argüelles, was the best at the creation workshop, while the second prize was given to the young maisiense Idalberto Ortíz Azahares, who impressed with his first presentation in this type of competition and he also received the honors of the painter Luis Eliades Rodríguez with Los Orishas stimulation.
Yoel Rey Barroso, director of Eliseo Osorio Art Gallery and main organizer of the National Wood Carving Contest Guayacán said that the participation of the foreign artists this year was poor, but the quality marked the meeting of carvers.
