Cuban television and radio stations awoke today to the tune of "Ojos Color Sol" (Sun-colored Eyes) and echoing the news: the clip of that song by Silvio Rodríguez and Calle 13 won a Latin Grammy.
The audiovisual material directed by Puerto Rican René Pérez (Residente) and Argentinean Kacho López won the award for Best Short Form Music Video, while the Colombian Juanes got it for best musical video long version with Loco de amor: La historia (Fool for Love: The Story).
Ojos Color Sol was born spontaneously, I collaborated with Calle 13 because they have a creative and nonconformist spirit, said Silvio Rodriguez when the clip caused such excitement in the network of networks.
The theme is based on a day when the sunlight was not necessary, because the beauty of the world lit up the eyes of a woman, Residente said.
'I met Silvio and sang live and what I had written so far in Cuba: he read it and smiled. We had nothing even regarding the musical part, Silvio recorded something simple and quick with his guitar and that guided us to compose', the leader of Calle 13 declared.
Mexican Gael García Bernal and Spanish Maria Valverde overcome the laws of universal gravitation in the video with a kiss similar to a novel by García Márquez, with its scenery full of oranges and Catholic saints.
Besides Silvio Rodriguez, Cuban artists Alex Cuba and the Septeto Santiaguero were given the Latin Grammy 2015 award.
Meanwhile, Pablo Milanés received the laurel for musical excellence, local media like Cubadebate and Juventud Rebelde highlight today.
With around 47 statuettes in competition, the 16th ceremony of these awards was held yesterday at the Grand Garden Arena Hotel, in Las Vegas.
