The Organizing Committee of the 57th Casa de las Américas Literary Prize 2016 announced officially today the start of activities of the international jury of the event.
The Organizing Committee of the 57th Casa de las Américas Literary Prize 2016 announced officially today the start of activities of the international jury of the event.
Director of the Literary Research Center of Casa de las Americas, Jorge Fornet, introduced live each and every jury of the contest, who will travel to the central Cienfuegos province to examine the more than 400 works vying for awards.
He also cited the works in the different categories, including more than 130 in the Play section, 40 essays and 221 stories, among others.
Member of the jury, Colombian writer Santiago Gamboa, gave the inaugural speech in the presence of President of Casa de las Americas Roberto Fernandez Retamar and presidential advisor Abel Prieto Jimenez.
The 57th Casa de las Americas Literary Award event will run through Jan.28, when former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica is scheduled to give a masterly lecture, a highlight of the event.
The 22 members of the jury of the Casa de las Americas Literary Prize 2016 are:
STORY: Santiago Gamboa (Colombia); Eduardo Lalo (Puerto Rico); Ana Quiroga (Argentina); Ramiro Sanchez (Uruguay) and Pedro Juan Gutierrez (Cuba).
PLAY: Andre Carreira (Brazil); Mariana Percovich (Uruguay); Luis A. Ramos Garcia (Peru-USA); Alejandro Roman (Mexico) and Fatima Patterson (Cuba).
ESSAY: Sandra Lorenzano (Argentina-Mexico); Julio Ramos (Puerto Rico) and Mayerin Bello (Cuba).
BRAZILIAN LITERATURE: Idelber Avelar (Brazil); Vivienda Gelado (Argentina) and Consuelo Rodríguez (México.)
