Young Cuban Poet Awarded in Spanish University

The University Miguel Hernandez (UMH) from the Spanish autonomous community of Valencia granted Cuban poet Roxana Martinez the First International New Prize of University Poetry for her work "Bitacora del sujeto ausente". UMH Rector Jesus Pastor Ciurana gave Martinez the award, which also includes the publication of the poems by the publishing house Editorial Club Universitario (ECU) and the amount of $2000 euros.

According to UMH, located in the city of Elche (Alicante), the goal of the contest is to foster poetic creativity among university students and guarantee the publication of their first works.

Martinez is a recent graduate of Art History at the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the Havana University and editor of Noticias de Artecubano.
