The National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba is getting ready to receive for the first time art pieces by the renowned Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto starting from November 19th.
Pistoletto stands out as one of the main referents of the Arte Povera movement, focused on make people think about the object and the form that results from the incorporation of materials of daily life.
Interested in the participation of the public as an important part of his work, the 86-year-old artist has been in Cuba on previous occasions, mainly to explain his art and ideology.
On December, 2014, and with the collaboration of Cuban artists, Pistoletto organized a performance at the mouth of the Almendares river in Havana, which became one of his most emblematic performances.
He came back in May,2015 in order to participate in the 12th Havana Biennial and later, in November, for the 1st Rebirth Forum: Geographies of Change, in which he proposed his theory about the active interaction between art, science, politics and the environment.
After the opening of the exhibition organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Pistoletto will take part in a conference on November 21st at the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, along with artists Jannis Kounellis (Greece) and Anish Kapoor (India).
