Typical Cuban melodies and Son were played in the tribute concert on the 25 years of the Guantanamo septet Universales del Son, with the participation of local groups that pleased the public gathered outside of the House of Trova “Benito Odio,” in the city of Guantanamo.
It was an occasion to enjoy the high quality musical performance of the group founded by the musician and researcher Ramón Gómez Blanco- who is still the singer of the group after leading it for 24 years- and today, the group includes new musicians as the young guitarist Luis Pantoja.
Derived from the trova group Frontera, the Universales del Son since its foundation, has kept the traditional and folklore music of this eastern land as the basis of its creation; that is nourished by the work of great composers, pianists and arrangers as Luis Martínez Griñán and Conrado Monier.
The concert, as part of the 39th Guantanamo Tradition and Culture Week, corroborated the talent and experience of the musicians who since 1993 have defend the most authentic Cuban music, including the native rhythms such as changüí, nengón and kiribá.
In the concert, the Guantanamo public also enjoyed the music of the septets Ayer y Hoy and Suave Caribe.
