"La Selva Oscura Award 2017": for Exceptional Guantanamo Artists

Cuban theater The oral narrator Tomás Velázquez Pantoja and the playwright Alba Babastro Noris received the “La Selva Oscura” Theater Award 2017, in the annual and honorary category, respectively, granted by the Provincial Council of Performing Arts of Guantanamo.

 

The nomination of the young actor to the award was in charge of the provincial committee of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC) and the Brigade of Art Instructors José Martí, for the constant participation of the also declaimer in the universe of the performing arts of the territory and his sustained community work, reasons that earned him the laurel.

On the other hand, the palywright and art critic Alba Babastro Noris won the 2017 Honorary Award, thanks to her successful promotional work of this expression of art in dissimilar media spaces, as well as her investigative, consultancy and teaching work in this area of the creation.

Others of the nominees were the actress of radio and television Ana Chelys Matos Toirac, member of the humorous group Komotú and the theater group Ríos, by the Association of Hermanos Saíz; as well as Xiomara Solís Gómez, director of the Guantanamo Children's Company La Colmenita, on behalf of the Provincial Department of Culture.

This year the jury was composed of the dance specialist Luz Elena Daudinot Batalla, the actress Virginia López Arnaud and puppeteer Eldy Luis Cuba Milán, who deliberated among the nominees submitted by the cultural institutions of the territory.
