Experts from Guantanamo nominated, for the first time as a jury of academy award, four albums for the 2018 Cubadisco Award, which will be presented on September 29, at the Astral theater in the capital of the country.
In Guantanamo, 49 albums were evaluated in the respective categories of archival music (14), traditional Son (17), Afro-Cuban and fusion music (nine in each category).
According to José Cuenca Sosa, coordinator of the jury here, after the evaluation of the records, they nominated five per category, from the commission's chairman of the largest annual event of the Cuban music, the musician Jorge Gómez Barranco.
Cuenca recalled that, as Guantanamo, other professionals from the provinces of Mayabeque, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Holguín also participated in the selection, at the request of the Cuban Academy of Record Labels, and the individual nomination of each member of the jury were sent to the Award Committee.
Among those who valued the productions in Guantanamo, stand out holding the Distinction for the National Culture Conrado Monier Ribeaux, musician and arranger, and Cuenca, musical researcher and director of the Information and Documentation Center Rafael Inciarte Brioso, who represented the high quality of the CD , especially in the Son and Cuban traditional music categories.
The local jury also included the well-known musicians Adonis Fernández Mulén, Armando Argenis Torres Pérez, René Méndez Fernández and Héctor Fuentes, the choreographer and folklorist Ernesto Llewellyn de la Hera and the visual artist Geny Jarrosay Hechavarría.
In addition to the records and generic features - the coordinator of the event said here -, the design and visual presentation of each work was valued, with the collaboration with digital memories and other aspects of the Association of Cuban Writers and Artist Association in the territory.
Although he did not specify titles or other details of the nominated works, Cuenca explained the diversity of works valued as the Changüí majadero record.
