The Work of Lutiers in the Sights of the Colloquium of Art and Identity

To have a workshop school for the construction of musical instruments with all the technical and disciplinary requirements, as well as preparing the new generation with the love for this fine artisanal tradition, stood out in the third Colloquium of Art and Identity held in the Casa de la Trova “Benito Odio,” from Guantanamo City.

In the panel "The art of manufacturing musical instruments. Challenges and solutions" with the participation of the experienced luthiers Sigifredo Taquechel and Antonio Monier, also highlights the skill passed on within families that is important to maintain the work of local artists, art schools and musical groups that have to restore or acquire new instruments in other provinces of the country.

The Colloquium Art and Identity displayed slides of musical instruments made by Guantanamo craftsmen as well as the visit of a the renown musician Frank Fernández to Taquechel's workshop, the artisan whose skillful hands made the caverchelo, a hybrid that combines the basic instruments of changüí, created by the Guantanamo architect Pedro Caverdos.
