The trades are learned in the course of life, some by necessity, others by tradition and on few occasions we do it to prove that we can do something new, as the young man Alexander Martínez Rodríguez, from Yateras Municipality who started to made handicrafts only a few months ago.
At beginning, he says, it was without knowing very well, because he was asked to collect the Guaniquiqui, a vegetable fiber used to make handmade-crafts such as centerpieces, baskets for bottles, fans in addition to furniture with different models.
In the different moments that he helped the non-State sector’s worker in Dios Ayuda, the town where he lives, he could learn that there are three types of that material, which can be sown as it is cut and other elements that made him fall in love with his work.
He also felt the need to organize in his working life, because the same young people with whom he began the manual labor explained that these products acquire a high economic value in the national and international market.
So after collecting the vegetable fiber, he learned how to clean them, classify by size for the preparation of the piece to make, in short he was captivated with the handicraft, now Alexander no longer only helps, he has learned to create his own handicrafts, a true art with Guaniquiqui.
