From August 8 to 11, Guantanamo will celebrate the Carnival 2019, dedicated this time to the 149th anniversary of obtaining title of Villa de Guaso, to the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and to the changüí, for the recognition of this native music-dance rhythm as cultural heritage of the nation.
The 43rd Political Song Festival, an event sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Guantanamo for the exchange and promotion of the work of new and experienced troubadours and writers of the archipelago, will be held from August 1st to 4th with special dedication to 60 years of the Cuban Institute of Film and Film Industry (Icaic).
The book "Memories of a Guantanamo military leader," which collects the experience of Captain Luis Herrera Tito” as leader of Column “Asdrúbal López,” was presented at the Trova House in the Guantanamo City by the MSc. Vivian Díaz Bardaji, president of the Cuban Historians Associtation in this eastern region.
The artistic sector in Guantanamo offers a varied program to commemorate the National Rebellion Day, with the activation of its entire circuit of institutions and the presence of creators of the amateur movement and members of the Lilí Martínez Griñán Provincial Center for Music catalog.
For its melody, creative lyrics and carnival feeling, the son “Abriendo el paso,” by the renowned and several-award-winning composer Emer Hernández Matos is the distinctive song of the carnival 2019 of the Guantanamo Municipality, which will take place in this eastern city from August 8 to 11.
