Usain Bolt and Yarisley Silva Lead Prensa Latina's Annual Survey

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and Cuban pole vaulter Yarisley Silva added today new votes in the annual survey of Prensa Latina, which awards the best athletes in Latin America and the Caribbean. Bolt, champion in 100 and 200 meters dash and the 4x100 relay at the World Athletics Championships Beijing-2015, earned his seventh vote as best athlete of the year, this time thanks to the Cuban radio station Radio Llanura, from the municipality of Colón in Matanzas.

Bolt, champion in 100 and 200 meters dash and the 4x100 relay at the World Athletics Championships Beijing-2015, earned his seventh vote as best athlete of the year, this time thanks to the Cuban radio station Radio Llanura, from the municipality of Colón in Matanzas.

The extraordinary Caribbean athlete, leader of the survey increased in this way the advantage over his main opponent, the Argentinean footballer Lionel Messi (3).

Radio Llanura also awarded Silva, world champion in Beijing with a record of 4.90 meters, and winner in the Pan American Games in Toronto, when she reached the 4.85.

Silva now leads the race for the best athlete of the year's title, with six votes, two ahead of her nearest rival, Jamaican runner Shelly-Ann Fraser, winner of the hectometre in Beijing.

Also, the Cuban boxing squad extended its primacy in the race to be proclaimed the best team in 2015.

After receiving the vote of Radio Llanura, Cuban boxers has 10 votes.

Finally, Radio Llanura selected among the more outstanding athletes of the year the following: Argentinean Lionel Messi (football) , Colombian Sara López (sports shooting), Cuban Lázaro Álvarez (boxing), Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera (baseball), and Colombian Katerine Ibargüen (triple jump, athletics ).

From its beginning until today, the participation in the annual survey conducted by Prensa Latina is made by news organization (written press, radio, television and electronic media) and not as individuals.
