While Semifinals of the 54th Cuban Baseball Series is underway, Guantanamo carries out the Provincial Sereis, first category attended by 11 teams representing the ten municipalities and one under 23 years old.

The teams looking to be among the first places in the event are the current champion Guantanamo, San Antonio del Sur, Imías, Baracoa and Maisi.

In the second group U23 is the only team with provincal category, besides the municipalities of El Salvador, Niceto Pérez, Caimanera, Yateras and Manuel Tames.

Since March 13 until May 31 this baseball championship will be held in nine municipalities in the easternmost province of Cuba aiming to develop the sport with a view to improve the provincial team´s performance in the national sereis.

Last year Guantanamo finished last, among 16 participants at the U23 National Championship, so this initiative of including the young team in the provincial series is welcome in order to improve training for future evets.

These young athletes not only train for the Cuban Series, they also achieve better general instruction and have enough time to correct technical errors.

It was also determined that in the provincial season athletes over 35 years will not participate in order to achieve the training of new figures and that the team could be renewed for the 55th National Series.

The qualifying stage of this provincial Series will take place until May 17 and then the cross semifinals will be held.

The U23 team led by Roberquis Videuax will increase training in June upon playing with the first category provincial champion with reinforcemet.
