"Enjoying Cuba," is the motto that calls all Cubans to enjoy a healthy recreation this summer, which begins on June 30 throughout the archipelago.

The Provincial Directorate of Sports in Guantanamo joins this invitation through several sports-recreational activities available to the delight of the population.

School Games for the athletes of the Rafael Freyre Sports Initiation School in Guantanamo every day is a challenge, even more so when the National School Games are being held from June 16 to July 20.

On this occasion, the Guantanamo delegation is composed of 311 athletes in the children category and 140 in the youth category, whose purpose is to improve the eleventh position obtained in the previous edition. In several provinces of the country, young competitors will measure their strengths and abilities in 22 of the 32 sports events.

Cuban Yorgelis Rodriguez, the bronze medalist in this year's indoor world cup, won the heptathlon silver medal at the athletics event in Götzis, Austria.

Yorgelis, a finalist in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics and champion at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, totaled 6,742 points in the seven competitions considered in that event, and was only beaten by the Belgian Olympic monarch Naffissatou Thiam (6806).

A strong struggle to achieve the two tickets for the final of the National Boxing Series is maintained between the teams of Santiago de Cuba, Holguín and Guantanamo, at the end of the first day, which takes place in the Rafael Castiello Multipurpose Hall, of the easternmost Cuban province.
