About more than 40 years ago he grew up between animals and dense thicketsof that hard-to-reach place and has been the Head Coach of the Cuba’s top boxing squad since 2009.
“To become the coach of the Cuba’s Boxing team, it is the greatest thing that ever happened to me in my career, I had been working for 34 years in Guantanamo as the chief and coach of boxing, but that responsibility is that any coach would like to, because the team of Cuba is the highest aspiration of all, I was called in November 2009 and my selection became effective in January.”
Rolando Acebal Montes is a man dedicated to work, the ideal person that makes his boxers to do their best.
That effort and dedication have had their results: In recent years the International Amateur Boxing Federation (AIBA) has selected him as the best coach in the world given the results as the Head Coach of the Cuban team.
“My victories belong to my people, to this mountainous region of Realengo 18 where I took my first steps as a human being, to my beloved Guantanamo where I realized myself as a coach and to all Cuba that is attentive to what we do to return with medals from each event ¨.
I inquired about the coming Olympics: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2016 that will be his fourth participation at the Olympic Games and the second time heading the Cuban team, how do you see the future?
“Of course we are already training, now I will be very busy in the preparation and from January we must complete the missing boxers of the squad, we still need to go to the Olympics with squad completely and it will be a tough competition in Brazil where the best fighters of the world will attend, but I hope to return home with as many medals as possible and at least two champions.
Rolando Acebal Montes is a simple but already an award-winning figure man in the boxing world and in Cuba he is appreciated for his role as head of the national team.
