Young workers of the sugar sector in Guantanamo evaluated how to get involved fully in the task of great wealth for this eastern territory economy.

"The previous harvest was good, because we achieved the plans foreseen, but much sugar cane was lost in the fields, sometimes yields per hectare fell and the sugar cane fields were burned improperly, affecting the contribution to the industry," praised Abel Rodriguez, agricultural worker of UBPC Alfonso Escalante, on the the town of Costa Rica, located in the Guantanamo municipality of El Salvador.

These and other shortcomings, such as poor and insufficient food and transportation breaks that is aimed at the cutting and hauling of sugarcane,  left a bittersweet taste in the young peasant during the fourth harvest in which he was involved. However, Abel says, "the boys are eager to draw a line under our regrets and act more united in the desire to take from the area of Costa Rica all the sugar cane that Argeo Martinez sugar mill needs in the next harvest.”

And he's not the only the young man alluded who want to stopgap solution before the starting of the harvest in mid-December, but all that integrate production units of sugar cane, who, called by the Young Communists League (UJC, in Spanish) and the Business Group Azcuba in the province, discusse about the challenges, best practices and actions to boost sugarcane recovery, as they agreed at the Tenth Congress of the youth organization.

So Azcuba entrepreneurs put on the table the effort to produce just over 26 thousand tons of sugar during 117 days provided for the 2015-2016 harvest and gradually raise all indicators regarding sugar cane activity of the easternmost Cuban province.

In that sense the youth of the sector evaluated how to get involved fully in the task, from more open spaces for youth brigades techniques to provide solutions to the problems of means of transportation, the creation of youth harvest shifts, the participation in caring for the cane fields, as well as mobilization of brigades for planting the fields, among other initiatives.
