The production of artificial sand and stone for construction work should be restored in the coming days in the Guantanamo municipality of Baracoa, when the repair of the aggregate factory, located in the community of Cabacu gets concluded.
The repair works on the important industry began last November and should be finished this month, by that time it is scheduled a dry test for the equipment, according to Higinio Rodriguez Abad, head of the installation.
The rehabilitation process is being carried out by workers of this factory, with the support of a brigade from the Building Materials Provincial Enterprise, and once completed the repair works it will enable to exceed 120 daily tons of aggregates.
Abad Rodríguez said that such an increase is based on the general technological improvement and in particular the set of a cone mill with greater production capacity than the last one.
A few days ago the final touches to have the equipment ready and the facility´s painting were given, the installation of a new sieve and transporters (including electric motors, gearboxes, railings and walkways) were completed, and the repair of the major mill will take place.
According to environmentalists the extraction of the raw material from La Mina River reduces the incorporation of sand to other important natural sites as well as the erosion of the river banks.
