The Guantanamo municipality of Yateras has now another uniqueness, since here Norges Pérez González is the first farmer in the country that establishes a small- coffee seedling plant to obtain coffee trees by means of the hipocotiledonar grafting technique.

This technique usesCoffea arabica as scion and Coffea canephora var robusta as stock, applying the wedge-shape cutmethod; zhich will encourage greater productivity of the variety of Coffee arabica.

The Hipocotiledonar graft is to eliminate the use of methyl bromide in soils affected by worms called nematodes, which enables the creation of new plantations, so that the presence of this pathogen does not affect the good development of this kind of coffee.

Norges Pérez González is member of the Cooperative of Credit and Service Roberto Rivero of Palenque, in the town of Yateras, where five hectares of land is dedicated to coffee production by means of hipocotiledonar grafting technique. Perez is a coffee grower with over 10 years of experience in this task in that territory.

The Coffee arabica species represents in the town of Yateras about 5% of the total area aimed at the production of this important economic line of goods.
