This was stated by Dr. Javier Perez Azahares, Director of Health in the eastern province during the annual report evaluating the work of the year 2015, where he stressed that the coverage of primary care reached one hundred percent and a provincial rate of 8.1 doctors, 1.4 dentists and 11 nurses per thousand inhabitants.
The dental services also increased this year with about 3 500 periodontal treatments and termination of more than 6,000 prostheses, two of the most demanded assistance by patients despite the setbacks due to the lack of raw materials.
The provincial director also highlighted the results in hospitals and said that during 2015 investments and organizational processes within the Agostinho Neto General Hospital, the technological equipment increased as well as the number of specialists.
It was also highlighted the completion of the Provincial Surgical Unit, with more than 17,000 surgeries performed until December, the reduction of mothers deaths and the birth of 7431 children, which places the province among the highest birth rates in the country.
With the presence of Dennis Legrá Azahares first secretary of the Provincial Communist Party in Guantanamo the work of outstanding personalities of the health sector such as Surgeon Paulino Four, Intensivist Leonardo Fernandez and the satisfactory results of areas of Neonatology, Intensive Care, and Assisted Reproduction.
The annual report in the health sector was ideal space to point out, however, the deficiencies still existing in the mosquito control campaign in the territory, the quality in the classification from the communities and the training of pediatric and geriatric specialists.
For the year 2016, the health sector in Guantanamo has as goals the opening of the Board for International Health Care, maintaining as a priority the care program for the elderly and advance the introduction of technologies for diagnosis and treatment to replace outdated equipment in various health institutions with the aim of increasing the quality of care throughout this eastern territory.
