The staff made up by more than 50 workers is concerned about the health, nutrition and healthy recreation of these grandparents whose average age is between 70 and 85 years old.
Nelsy Lamorú La O, Director of the center, said that the greatest satisfaction of workers here is to serve with great care all the seniors to bring them to live a happier and lasting life despite not being next to their family.
The Nursing Home Santa Catalina also helps to mitigate the aging population in this nation where it is expected to reach three million seniors in 2025.
Improving the care provided in nursing homes in this territory is part of a comprehensive strategy to deal with one of the most difficult demographic challenges of today, which is the fact that Cuba is among the countries in Latin America with the highest life expectancies.
Although Guantanamo, the easternmost province of Cuba, has the youngest population in the country, but cannot escape from the accelerated aging that our nation experiences in decades.
