Residents of the Guantanamo municioality of Baracoa, on behalf of all Cuba, ratified today the strength of this generation in defending the homeland, 120 years after the arrival of the Major Generals of the liberation army Antonio Maceo and Flor Crombet along with other patriots, as an answer to the call by José Martí, organizer of the Necessary War.
Residents of the Guantanamo municioality of Baracoa, on behalf of all Cuba, ratified today the strength of this generation in defending the homeland, 120 years after the arrival of the Major Generals of the liberation army Antonio Maceo and Flor Crombet along with other patriots, as an answer to the call by José Martí, organizer of the Necessary War.
In the heat of this patriotic spirit, old and new generations from early hours walk the streets of the Cuba´s First Village up to reaching the Obelisk located in Duaba Beach, about two miles west Baracoa, where the disembark took place and every year the feat is remembered and outstanding young people perform the action carried ot by the expedition.
This time the Hero of the Republic of Cuba Ramón Labañino accompany the disembark, one of the Cuban five antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned for 16 years in the United States. Like him, the cuban youth assumes thecurrent challenges with the legacy of Antonio Maceo.
Before the march to the Duaba Obelisk, in tribute to Antono Maceo and Flor Crombet, a wreath was laid to Felix Ruenes and was staged the moment in whch the Baracoa patriot shouted: VIVA CUBA LIBRE, GENERAL ANTONIO HAS ARRIVED.
Today Baracoa and Guantanamo are filled with glory again upon commemorating the first of April, 1895 when the schooner Honor reached the Duaba beach with 23 expedicionariosa board. The people do not forget that near the landing point of the disembark, General Antonio and his followers had fought the first victorious battle against the Spanish army in the Alto del Pino.
