Workers of the Ministry of Construction (MICONS) and the non-state sector in this municipality started the restoration of Baracoao’s main avenue on the esplanade of this welcoming city.
That task is included in the various activities planned to commemorate, the 15th of August, the 505 anniversary of founding of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Baracoa, as the first villa of Cuba, by Spanish Diego Velázquez.
The replacement of old pavement and improvement of water supply and sewage networks are part of the actions initiated in the avenue, where the workers change aluminum cables by copper (more resistant to salt corrosion) and install new street lights.
According to Eduardo Zorrilla Romero, vice president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, builders undertake the repair of houses in this colorful avenue and create public areas as three parks and recreation, and trade and gastronomy centers.
In total there are some 17 restoration works carried out and the program will include the enlargement of the Plaza Cacique Hatuey, the main stage of the parades of Baracoa.
Another very important task, it is the elimination of leaks, a work that started down the street Mariana Grajales, in the La Playa neighborhood, and shall be extended progressively to the rest of the city.
