Duties include management of forests and vegetation cover, soil erosion control and reforestation with unique species of the area, says Hayler María Pérez Trejo, specialist at the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Science.
These actions are extended to other important areas like Toa River Basin, with ten of the thirty acres benefited in the eastern province aimed at recovering damaged ecosystems by human action.
The Guantanamo environmentalist stresses that the actions in the province include areas of the Biosphere Reserve of Cuchilals del Toa and Hatibonico´s ecology, seat of the unique hills known as Monitongos.
Hayler María Pérez Trejo, specialist at the Alejandro de Humboldt Park Environmental Services stressed the importance of these areas recognized for their biodiversity, aquifer wealth and other key resources.
