The Technical Department of the Cuban Institute of Water Resources in this eastern province informed that the dam La Yaya, which supplies the residents of the southern area in the city, the surrounding communities and the productive pole in the municipality of Niceto Pérez, has the worst situation storing only 22 percent.
The Jaibo reservoir reaches 44 percent of capacity, water used to supply other resident of the city through a pumping station built in the Camarones channel and a similar smaller installation in the Montgomery neighborhood.
Meanwhile the Faustino Pérez reservoir which supplies the three quarter of Guantanamo the city, has a more favorable situation by storing 78 percent of its possibilities, guaranteeing the water consumption until the rainy season.
The Technical Department of the Cuban Institute of Water Resources in Guantanamo informed that the scenario requires lengthening distribution cycles depending on the water availability, reducing the agriculture delivery system, industries and increasing control over clients considered high consumers among other measures.
It is suggested that state entities and the residential sector to take appropriate measures to save water and face the severe drought affecting us.
