World statistics report that 80 percent of the diabetic population does not know about their clinical condition and suffers from complications caused by the illness, a panorama that motivates specialists and health promoters in the province to carry out an active investigation today.
The campaign also includes morning meetings and the making of murals in health institutions as well as the presentation of children's special interest clubs and audience in some neighborhoods of Guantanamo city.
Another action celebrating the World Health Day in the eastern province includes spaces in work centers and schools to instruct people by health experts and graduates in physical culture who will discuss the importance of diet and exercise to prevent or control diabetes.
For the caring of this patients there is a multidisciplinary consultation in each of the 23 polyclinics in the province, where the sick is examined by clinicians, psychologists, dentists, podiatrists and other professionals linked to primary care.
Diabetological treatment and monitoring is also guaranteed in Guantanamo hospital services and the Provincial Center for the care and Education of Diabetic Patients, which for more than 20 years provides care and information to near 400 patients annually.
