Very close to the place where Jose Martí and Maximo Gomez disembarked on April 11, 1895 along with other patriots in Cajobabo Beach, in the Guantanamo municipality of Imías, is located one of the forests Marti planted with plants revolutionary fighter refered to in his Dairy of Military Campaing.
Thearea is exteded over 7.5 acres with a trail of about 900 meters where the expedition traveled and natural elements come together with perfect harmony such as the swamp, stones and thorns described by Martí.
The first plants found at the forest´s entry have been planted by outstading people in the country who traditionally a tree on this site.
The site was officially opened in 1995 by the Commander of the Revotlution Juan Almeida Bosque and the 32 species that Martí described in his passing through Imias are treasured. There is also a rustic amphitheater where the stones and trunks of palms, used as seats when cultural activities, meetings of historians and others evets were held.
Something significant is the fact that during the activities that take place in the Forest participants have the same snack eat by Martí including a different preparation of coffe (boiling water sweetened with coffee powder together and then a lighted stick is introduced), roast pork, guarapo (sugarcane juice) as well as coconut and honey.
At the end of the trail, leaving behind the lush vegetation, houses of the nearest neighbors and a spring are found, known as the Loborio´s well. In 1995, 100 years after the Marti´s desembark it was renamed the The well of the Centenary.
This is pleasant experience if visistors decide to reach Imías, the capital of Marti Forest and walk the road of history.
