More than 28 000 members of the Union of Education, Science and Sport will open the parade on May Day in Guantanamo, a guild that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the Literacy Campaign and the proclamation of Cuba as territory free of illiteracy.
This was announced by Vilma Hamilton Asencio, secretary general of the union in the province, who also added that during the provincial act, they will carry representative elements such as booklets, pencils, lanterns, banners, posters and flags that will give a special color to the celebrations.
The union leader said that the march on the Workers’ International Day will be opened by professors of the University of Guantánamo, and then followed by the teachers from 700 schools of the territory and the INDER’s teachers will be at the end of the block.
Finally, Vilma Hamilton Asencio, the unionist leader in the province, announced that May Day will be a moment for Guantanamo educators to reaffirm their commitment to the country, the revolution and socialism.
