In Panama and the Seventh Summit of the Americas, the colors of our flag are displayed by means of a collective mural painted in Kcho’s study Romerillo. Drawing done by many generous hands, the work is an expression of the unity of our artists and the Cuban people, a hymn to the realities of the country and banner of the Cuban delegation.

There is much talk of the Summit these days, a forum for dialogue that under the tutelage of the controversial Organization of American States, OAS, confronts the looks of America –mixed-race and Aboriginal people and whose veins still oozing the aftermath of neoliberalism and the interventionism of the United States- with the views of its counterpart on the other side of the Rio Grande.

The land of Omar Torrijos that also felt for nearly a century the negative effects of the great influence of foreigners, welcomes the discussions with the aim of achieving real dialogue and understanding between nations. To crown a fruitful exchange, it is essential political will of governments and respect for the sovereignty of each nation, a key issue on the agenda of the event, where debates are expected on recent US attacks on Venezuela's sovereignty, independence of Puerto Rico and the suspension of economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.

In this scenario, in Panama, Cuba and its culture are present, represented by women and men in all areas of society. Entrepreneurs, producers, business entrepreneurs, students, scientists, artists, intellectuals and workers in different forums, held parallel to the formal event, where they present the experience of living and building a society like ours.

For the nearly two hundred members of the Cuban delegation, it is this a unique opportunity to explain and defend -in front of paid mercenaries to distort national-reality model of a socialist society built just 90 miles from the most powerful empire ever known to mankind, a society subjected to a blockade without guns, tried for more than 50 years to surrender the Cubans with material needs that only managed to strengthen spirituality and resilience of Cubans.

The Isthmian nation receives representatives of the Largest Antilles full of experiences that expose on issues of social importance as Democratic Governance, Citizenship, Immigration, Security, Energy, Environment, Health and Education.

In other areas such as youth forum which begins this April 8, young Cubans will present their views on access to and use of new technology, political participation and the right to education, among other  key issues to build the present and future of the nation and the continent.

The Cuban tradition in the tobacco farming and production of internationally known Habanos and Development Zone of Mariel prospects and cooperative experiences are among the topics of interest to the Cuban entrepreneurs that attend one of the Forum in the middle of economic updates.

All these topics will be discussed at the Summit of Americas, in which Cuba participates due to the support of Latin America and the Caribbean countries. Thus we participate at the summit, and all its forums and alternative spaces; filled with proposals, experiences and reasons to defend in a continent that after much struggle, we go for the ways of unity and integration.
