One of the most important events of the independence struggle in1895 was the arrival in Cuba of Goleta Honor, led by the Major General Francisco Adolfo Crombet Tejera (Flor).

However, the historical significance of that event was not only marked by his arrival in Cuban beaches along with other patriots, but also by eruption of passions, extraordinary personal and collective sacrifices, as well as the great enemy pressure and hostility that characterized the march of the expedition of Goleta Honor.

After landing on Duaba in Baracoa and after six days trekking through rivers, making their ways in rain and slashing with machetes deep forests, the expedition reach the farm Dos Brazos, in Yateras.

The April 8, the Aborigines Garrido, natives of the area, surprised Flor Crombet with other members of Goleta, at the place known as “la Alegría", on the banks of Toa River, where a substantial ground combat took place.

Patriots were then deployed into three groups: one led by Antonio Maceo, the other by his brother Jose and the latter by Flor. Although they lost their way, they remained in the area in the night of April 8 and 9.

On the tenth day, around eleven o'clock in the morning, Maceo heard gunfire and cries, THAT IS THAT FIGHTING IS FLOR! Wounded in the leg, Crombet continued firing. Unfortunately a gunshot entered the forehead and left him mortally wounded in a place known as Alto de Palmarito.

The enemy troops, who kill Francisco Adolfo Crombet Tejera, strip him of correspondence, documentation and outraged his remains during transiting through several villages in the municipality of Yateras.

The memory of Flor Crombet, his legacy and significance in the country's history, has encouraged for more than three decades ago the 20 young Yateras people who travel the route he trekked in 1895 on the territory.

Political, cultural, and sporting activities recall the ideals of independence of this patriot in communities like Los Negros de Garrido, Arenal, Alegría Chiquita, Arrollo Bueno and others where rests the body of courageous mambí .

In the Alto de Palmarito where Francisco Adolfo Crombet Tejera (Flor) fell in combat, a national monument stands. On this site every April 10, the new generation plays the combat and with the people of Yateras pays homage to one of the most worthy fighters of Cuban Mambí Army.
