Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro said in Caracas that after attending the Seventh Summit of the Americas, held in Panama, he traveled to Cuba before returning to his country and met with the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.
"We feel the need to meet with Commander Fidel Castro to thank for his support," said the head of state in a ceremony held in that capital and broadcasted by radio and television.
"I was there in Cuba, and talked to Fidel Castro for almost four hours until 12 pm and he was ready to talk for four hours more," Maduro said.
On the occasion of the Day of the Bolivarian Militia, Maduro said that the victory gained in Panama was the result of more than 10 million signatures collected against the decree of his US counterpart who considers the South American country a threat to its security.
The Venezuelan leader also referred to the death of Uruguayan intellectual Eduardo Galeano as a man committed to the struggles of the southern peoples.
"Our applause, our love, our tears of commitments to honor the work of the prominent Uruguayan writer and journalist Eduardo Galeano," said President Maduro in reference to his physical departure.
"One of the recent political events in the life of Galeano was signing the book to demand the derogation of the Decree” said the president of the Venezuealn republic.
