More than 150 delegates representing near 25 countries will participate in the Fifth International Peace Seminar and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases, scheduled for May 4 to 6 in Guantanamo.
More than 150 delegates representing near 25 countries will participate in the Fifth International Peace Seminar and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases, scheduled for May 4 to 6 in Guantanamo.
Ana Teresa Napoles Disotuar, delegate of the Cuban Friendship Institute in the eastern province, said to Granma that among those who will attend the event, it is remarkable the participation of a group of Americans, representation integrated by committees of different pacifist organizations.
The opening of the seminar will be take place at the theater of the University of Medical Sciences in Guantanamo, an activity that will have the presence of Silvio Platero Yrola, president of the Cuban Movement for the Peoples´ Peace and Sovereignty (Movpaz); And Maria Socorro Gomes, president of the World Peace Council.
During that time the president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, Dr. Nancy Acosta Hernández, will make a characterization of the territory and will present the first presentations of the delegates, who will hold a meeting with Members of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution in the evening.
The second day includes plenary work, the continuation of the presentation of the papers, the exhibition of the documentary Todo Guantánamo es nuestro, (All Guantanamo is ours), by the Colombian director Hernando Calvo Ospina, and the participation of delegates in the Concert for Peace in the 24 de Febrero Park.
For the last day it is planned the approval of the final declaration of the meeting, the presentation of the book Base Naval en Guantánamo. Estados Unidos versus Cuba, by a group of Cuban authors, and a public event in Caimanera, where the United States Government has maintained its illegal naval enclave for more than a century.
