The outstanding intellectual received the statuette from Henry Rodriguez Terrero, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in Guantanamo, after his speech addressed at the Guaso Theater in this eastern city, in which members of the Ecumenical Faith Network for Cuba attended.
Representatives of churches and fraternal institutions, members of the Popular Educators Network, university students and professors, art instructors and workers from various sectors of Guantanamo society also participated in the meeting.
The visit of the Liberation Theologian to Guantánamo is also the first of a tour that will be carried out by various communities in the eastern Cuban provinces, including Santiago de Cuba. In the heroic city, he will pay tribute to the Commander in Chief of the Revolution, in the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery.
Frei Betto, author of 60 books and indomitable defender of the possibility of understanding between Christians and communists, visits Guantanamo previous to the Fifth Seminar of Peace for the Abolition of the Foreign Military Bases to take place next
