"One of my dreams was always to visit Caimanera and the other to see that piece of Cuba recovered by the Cubans," the Brazilian theologian Frei Betto said in Guantanamo during his keynote speech at the Guaso Theater.

As a leading exponent of Liberation Theology (a Christian current with a strong social nature, consisting of Catholic and Protestant), the visitor synthesized the origins of humanity, its epochs, until the outbreak of science, technology and brutal inequality derived from capitalism or global colonization and exhorted its antithesis: the globalization of solidarity.

The Dominican Order priest, reiterated that Cuba promotes the culture of heroism, and is a model, with capacity for resistance, ideological preparation, and if the Yankee empire respects this country is because it is not only about facing a Government, but the people, and a people cannot be defeated, a lesson learned in Giron Beach.

The author of the book Fidel and the Religion warned that the future will be what the current generations are able to reap such as values and meant that in socialism that spirituality is a gospel of love.

While evoking to his friend Fidel Castro Ruz, the Carioca religious said: "he did a work and sowed the seed so that other generations could reap its fruit, while Ché was able to give up a young life for others to have.

One of the audience's questions was that of Pastor Javier Trujillo, about the place that the church should occupy in Cuban society, and he answered that one of the concepts of the church is to always be in favor of the people and if this government is, then they will always meet each other, to they are going to be in agreement.

Frei Betto received on behalf of the Guantanamo people the statuette of La Fama, Symbol of the City, a painting with a city view, by Carlos Rafael González Barbán, and another of the artist Ernesto Cuesta Esteris, with an image of José Martí.

The tour of that personality to Caimanera and El Salvador in Guantánamo will continue through Santiago de Cuba and Granma, on occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Center, and it supported by the ecumenical network Faith for Cuba and Popular Education, with the aim to make the experience of the Cuban Revolution more perfectible from Christian inspiration, according to Yoel Suarez, Executive Coordinator of the Martin Luther King Center.

The lecture of Frei Betto in Guantánamo was attended by the top authorities of the province, young people, intellectuals, religious, fraternal associations, mass organizations and other representatives of the society and to give a warmed welcome to the Brazilian friend, the Camera Orchestra Mi Sol played the pieces of Silvio Rodríguez and Jesús Fernández.
