Since the mobilization was called, there has been a massive commitment by the workers of this region, represented in 16 unions, so it is augured in the world proletariat holiday the strong support of the Guantanamo people to the irreversible Cuban socialist system, Raúl and the legacy of the undefeated Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro.
In the chief towns of the 10 municipalities of Guantanamo province the workers, the students and their relatives will march that day, side by side, and the main parade of the province will take place - as every year - in the Plaza de la Revolución Mariana Grajales, inaugurated by the unforgettable Leader of the Cuban Revolution on July 26, 1985.
Around 280,000 Guantanamo people are expected to march in the main plazas of the province, about half of them are unionists, including about 7,000 from the non-state sector.
Niolvis Machado Guilarte, a member of the provincial secretariat of the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC), told ACN that the territory is ready to parade and show patriotic enthusiasm, unity, and raise its voice again in rejection of the illegal US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, in violation of international law.
“Precisely the demand for the return of the territory illegally occupied by that Yankee military camp,” he said, “will also be unanimous shortly, from May 4 to 6, during the Fifth Seminar on Peace and Abolition of Foreign Military Bases, which will unite in this province to about 180 delegates from some 25 countries.”
“While in many nations worldwide, the World Labor Day becomes a manifestation of demands for their governments for social justice and equality” - Machado Guilarte said – “Cubans celebrate a true feast of workers, who truly ratified the current socio-economic transformations in the country.
The gathering in Guantanamo is scheduled from five in the morning and the event in Plaza Mariana Grajales will start at seven o'clock with the traditional parade, this time led by 50 young people representing all sectors of the economy and the victories of the Revolution.
The first unionists block will be composed of Civil Defense, Construction, Energy and Mines Workers and Communications, among the most outstanding in the recovery of the five municipalities affected by Hurricane Matthew last October.
During the ceremony in the stand at the Mariana Grajales plaza, the Theater Crusade, for its 27 years bringing art to the mountain communities of the territory, and the Brigade Ernesto Che Guevara of the University of Guantánamo for the successful social work and education in confronting disaster situations, will be honored.
