The young dancers Julio César Rodríguez Azahares, of the company Danza Fragmentada, Keyser Castro Leyva and Elio Orestes Reyna Figueredo, both of Danza Libre, are the nominees to the award in honor to the North American dancer, the promoter of the Guantanamo dance in the national and international arena.
During the dance season that will take place on the 28th and 29th at the Teatro Guaso in this city, the director of the Folk Ballet Babul, Ernesto Llewellin La Hera and the members of his troupe, Arquímides Salas Pedro and Selmira Fiol Vidal, will received the diploma for their 40, 35 and 25 years of professional career, respectively.
In addition, the singer Yolanda Fiol Vidal, of Danza Libre, will receive her award for 25 years of career too, as well as the university group Jagüey, a legitimate exponent of the Franco-Haitian folklore, Caribbean and popular dances during four decades.
During the season to mark the International Dance Day, the students of the Professional Dance School "Alfredo Velázquez Carcasés" will show their virtuosity together with the professional companies of Guantánamo: Danza Libre, Ballet Folklorico Babul, Danza Fragmentada and the Médula Project, which collect many awards and recognitions given in Cuba and abroad.
The World Dance Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the creator of the contemporary ballet, the French Jean-Georges Noverre, an initiative also aimed at summoning the dancers who express through the body their most sublime dreams.
