The recognition of 16 communication, construction and transport staffs with the "Proeza Laboral" flag, as well as the tribute to dozens of workers who worked during the recovery proccess, following Hurricane Matthew, are some of the achievements that mark the commemoration in Guantanamo of the International Proletariat Holiday.

More than one hundred and eighty thousand workers and their families will march through Mariana Grajales Square in Guantanamo after the intense battle for the restoration of the infrastructure of water, roads, communications and other services in the municipalities of Baracoa, Maisí, Imías, San Antonio del Sur and Yateras.

In addition, the workers' movement in the territory achieve more than 500 voluntary blood donations on occasion to May Day, as well as the acknowledgement of 40 work places with the work achievement incentives "For the paths of triumph" and the affiliation of 84 % of non-state workers to the CTC.

On the other hand, the efforts to fulfill the harvest and the work to mitigate the drought are intensifying, actions that will also encourage the united march this May Day in the province, where the 16 unions will demand the cessation of the unjust imperialist blockade to Cuba and the return of territory illegally occupied by the United States at Guantanamo.

Led by a group of prominent youths and followed by civil defense workers, the May Day parade in the provincial capital is attended by Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, Cuban Minister of Education, and Néstor Bárbaro Hernández Martínez, the National Secretary of the Union of Agriculture, Forestry and Tobacco Workers, the labor union that will close the march in alliance with the peasants of the territory.

Trade union leaders from Spain, Puerto Rico, Italy and other nations of the world will participate in the Guantanamo parade on the World Proletariat Holiday, as well as 30 Venezuelans who are working on the recovery of the bridge over the river Toa, located in the coastal municipality of Baracoa.

As part of the activities on May 1st, leaders of the countries invited to the celebration in the province will attend a solidarity meeting at the Cuban Friendship Institute, ICAP's headquarters, along with members of the Che Guevara International Brigade, who also will visit outstanding trade union groups.
