With the certainty that the Revolution is for the people and the workers, the May Day parade in the capital of Guantanamo province started, a new opportunity to ratify the commitment to preserve the legacy of the historic leader Fidel Castro and reaffirm that strength of Cubans is the unity of its people.
This was stated by Juana Eglis Fernández, General Secretary of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC, in Spanish) in this territory, who in the opening speech of the patriotic march stressed that we celebrate this May Day with important motivations such as the commemoration of the 56th anniversary of the Victory in Playa Girón and the declaration of the socialist character of the Revolution, 55th of the Young Communist League and 50th of the fall of Ernesto Guevara in Bolivia, an example of innovator and promoter of the volunteer work for the country's development.
The CTC leader in Guantánamo emphasized that the May Day celebrations are a new opportunity to demand the cessation of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba and the return of territory illegally occupied by the naval base Yankee in the province of Guantánamo.
"This parade is a strong expression of support for the Revolution and the tribute to the commander of all battles, the historic leader of the Cuban people," and stressed the validity of Fidel's remarks at the 20th Congress of the CTC: The Homeland and the Revolution are in the hands of the working class. " This is how we raise awareness today to continue the achievements of our social project.
An example of the efforts of Guantánamo workers to improve economic indicators is increased production of food such as pork and vegetables, despite the effects caused by drought, as well as increased sales of construction materials.
The role of men and women in daily life is reflected in greater labor productivity, the development of investments for social development, an increase in the transportation of passengers and the gradual recovery of the territories affected by Hurricane Matthew.
These results encourage efforts to increase progress, said Juana Eglis Fernández, General Secretary of the CTC in the province, who concluded by congratulating all workers, youth and the general public for their role in updating the economic and social model.
She also called to continue working on productive orders, import substitution, energy saving, the struggle for peace, internationalism, research, teaching and support for the causes of peoples struggling for their autonomy.
