Among the issues of interest are the protection of mountain ecosystems, sustainable land management and food security with two different polygons for the care of soils, water and forests at the Cooperative Production Unit Eliomar Noa in Imías and the Cooperative of Credits and Services Enrique Campos, in the provincial capital.
Other projects focus on improving the quality of life in the countryside, the practice of agroecological techniques and resilience to climate change with implementation in the southern coastal strip, known as the Cuban semi-desert.
In this sense, the experiences in the municipality Imías, where they produce bio-insecticides from the Neem tree, an inedible natural oil of India and introduced in the Ecological Reserve Baitiquirí a decade ago.
During the presentation of the twenty projects that make up CITMA's portfolio of opportunities, scientists and professors from University of Guantanamo agreed on the need to integrate knowledge and efforts to promote long-term proposals that are effective in the field.
