    CMKS Radio Station, the Anti-Imperialist Trench Turns 80

    The CMKS Radio Station of Guantanamo celebrates its 80th anniversary, whose experience and careful work endorse a trail of recognition and the predilection of the audience, especially the mountains, which cover three-quarters of the easternmost Cuban province.

    The old radio station has dedicated all the activities of 2017 to celebrate the important day, together with the 95th anniversary of the Cuban Radio, and strength actions in these days that also receives the recognition of the people, both the radio station and its most consecrated workers.

    Festivals, photographic exhibitions and awards to the workers of more uninterrupted years in the CMKS have been promoted throughout this month, which in turn has been awarded by the Government and the Cuban Communist Party in the province, and the cultural sector, which has presented several artistic shows.

    In the context of the tributes, the Municipal Assembly of People's Power awarded the institution with the 145th Anniversary of the Villa de Guantanamo Commemorative Plaque well as it was awarded to the experienced journalist Martha Reyes and the veteran announcer Juan Francisco Guilarte.

    The Antimperialist Trench, as it is also named, is recognized for its militant performance in safeguarding the Revolution and in promoting the best of the local culture and of the island, through transmissions that satisfy the informative, educational and recreational needs of the population.

    Regarding the anniversary, its Programming Manager Ramón González, stressed that "the 80 years of the station of Guantanamo have been at the side of the people, by promoting every moment that they have lived, and committed to broadcast 24 hours a day a more human and objective programming."

    More than half a hundred programs are on the air today - he points out - and its signals reach to remote places in the mountains, while professionals and technicians work hard to study tastes and demands, a task that finally weaves a solid bridge to listeners .

    CMKS is the director of the radio system of the easternmost Cuban region, which also comprises its counterparts CMDX La Voz del Toa, located in the municipality of Baracoa; Radio Playitas, of Imías; Radio Bahía, Caimanera, and La Voz del Sol, located in Maisí territory.

    Founded in 1937 by the Guantanamo Cándido Savón Suárez, CMKS was a pioneer of remote control in this part of the archipelago and promoter of live Cuban music.

    Among four other radio stations that emerged in the town in the 30's of last century, this radio station was transcended by its contribution to the development of national radio, and its open support for the revolutionary movement, ceding microphones to underground fighters, against the regime scored by Fulgencio Batista.

    In all its years of work, attached to the future of the province, CMKS collects important distinctions, among them the Replica of the Machete of Generalissimo Máximo Gómez, the greatest award conferred by the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces for cultural work in defense of national identity.
