The commitment of Guantánamero's women to remain loyal to the legacies of Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro and Vilma Espín, was reaffirmed during a ceremony to present August 23 Distinctions to a substantial group of Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) members.
The ceremony was held in Mariana Grajales Plaza de la Revolución's protocol room and was preceded by a tribute by participants to the courage and fighting spirit of Cuban women.
The event was among several taking place on the occasion of the FMC's
57th anniversary, and also served as an opportunity to recognize leaders of the organization who have devoted five, ten, 15, 20, or more years to the organization.
Daysi Véliz Bravo, secretary general of the Federation in the province, emphasized in her remarks that the FMC maintains its strength and relevance, more than half a century after its founding, adding that the thought and example of both Fidel and Vilma are more present than ever.
A total of 41 Federation members and three men, who have made outstanding contributions to the organization in Guantánamo, were recognized with the August 23 Distinction.
