Barbaro Zabala Lahitte, specialist of Environmental Services Unit, UPSA, attached to the Ministry of Science territorial Delegation, said that the tour enabled further studies to Salto Fino, the country's highest waterfall, discovered and explored by Nunez Jimenez in the 60s of last century and nominated it as an Outstanding Natural Element.
The expert explained that they analyzed the mapping of Arroyo del Infierno, studies of the electrical conductivity, temperature, water pH and velocity, and other data useful for knowledge of the area located in the Alejandro Humboldt Park.
In addition, researchers climbed Toldo Plateau and crossed the Jaguaní River, until the Toa River’s tibaracón, a route filmed by Mundo Latino production company team for a documentary.
Divided into three teams, the scientists exchange with communities of Alejandro Humbodt National Park and studied the relationship between humans and the environment, in addition to an inventory of flora and fauna.
The signing of a cooperation agreement between the Foundation for Nature and Man, FANJ, and Guantanamo UPSA consolidated ties between the two scientific institutions that lead this journey through the Biosphere Reserve Cuchillas del Toa and largest Cuban river as a tribute to Antonio Nunez Jimenez, a passionate of this geography of eastern Cuba.
