    Vladimir Putin and Raul Castro Hold Talks in Moscow

     Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed today with his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro, issues of bilateral political and economic-trade agenda, the Kremlin’s press reported.

    According to the source, both leaders reviewed the prospects of cooperation on new agreements in various fields of cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues, Prensa Latina reports.

     President Raul Castro arrived in Moscow last 5th to comply with the invitation of his Russian counterpart to the commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the Red Army victory over fascism on May 9.

     During a meeting held yesterday with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, the Cuban president said he "could not miss these celebrations for the 70th anniversary of this victory for our great friendship, preserved, and the ties between our peoples."

     For Moscow, Cuba excels among the main partners in Latin America and the Caribbean, with which it maintains an intensive political dialogue at the bilateral level and at the request of international forums.

    They testify about regular exchanges of visits, even at the highest level. Putin visited the island in 2000 and in the summer of 2014, in addition to a visit in 2008 held by Medvedev as a president in that time.

     Also, Raul Castro carried out an official visit in 2009, after 25 years of absence, and a working stay in 2012.

     The two governments signed in January 2009 a memorandum on the principles of strategic partnership.

    On May 8, Moscow and Havana will celebrate the 55th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
     
    Along with greet the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States exclusively bilateral, Russia insists on the urgent need for the elimination of the US blockade imposed on the island for more than half a century, the Kremlin’s official note underlined.

     According to the text, the official program of the Cuban president also includes a lunch on behalf of the host head of State, the 8th, and laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at the foot of the Kremlin walls, just before the military parade in the Red Square.

     President Raul Castro will be present at the tribune, along with other foreign leaders invited to the central ceremony for the victory that will be also attended by heads of international organizations like the United Nations and UNESCO, and regional organizations.

     The current visit is carried out in the context of the successful celebration of the special session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Collaboration, held in Kazan on April 22, and resulted in a dozen documents sealed in various fields of cooperation.
