With over 19 000 patients treated with ozone therapy in the last two years, this therapeutic alternative confirms its value in Guantanamo as one of the modalities of Natural Medicine considered a powerful anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and immunostimulant product.

With 15 years of application of ozone therapy in Guantanamo, more than 80 percent of the beneficiaries state to feel better or cured from their diseases, said Dr. Leonardo Hinojosa Sabournin, Master in Bioenergetic Medicine, who highlights the impact on the quality of life of those favored by the so-called gas of life.

The head of the Natural Medicine Program in the province refers to the potential of ozone to treat various conditions of the osteomioarticular system such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, disc herniation, synovitis, either through rectal insufflations or paravertebral via, epidural and intradiscal, through infiltrations.

He also said that in Guantanamo, ozone is also applied in patients suffering from ophthalmological diseases such as retinitis as it can help increase the visual field or slow the degenerative process characteristic of this pathology.

He said that among its benefits, ozone strengthens the body´s defenses, hence that people with HIV / AIDS and chronic non-transmissible diseases such as asthma and diabetes mellitus are indicated with the medicine.

The number of sessions varies in quantity and duration depending on the condition and is supplied with the doctor´s indication because, due to the small increase in blood pressure, it is contraindicated in cases of cardiac infarction, pregnancy, allergies to ozone and in the presence of acute alcoholic intoxication.

In this eastern territory, institutions such as the Agosthino Neto General Hospital Doctor, the Pedro Agustín Pérez Pediatric Hospital and the Center for Retinitis Pigmentosaprovide these services, while it is planned to extend them to the rest of the municipalities, in addition to solving the breakages of the equipment installed in the Emilio Daudinot Polyclinic in the city of Guantánamo and the one located in the Octavio de la Concepción Hospital in Baracoa, said Dr. Leonardo Hinojosa Martín.

Cuba has a vast experience in the use of ozone therapy since the 80's, successfully applied taking into account the patient´s physical conditions and it is recognized worldwide the multiple investigations being carried out on the island related to this subject.
