Today is Monday, September 4 and left behind the busy days with the preparations that announce the beginning of a new journey in the world of knowledge, an everyday fact but at the same time a great event for the Cuban family.
This way we welcome September and with the ninth month of the year we open the doors of classrooms which in mountains and cities revolutionize knowledge as the Cuban National Hero Jose Martí said, the school has to equip the mind for the task of life.
Here where education is a right and not a privilege, we live the first day of school as a celebration, during the day smiles are mixed with hugs, tips, encounters with old friends, the arrival of new partners, greetings to the teachers, the commitment to improve teaching with the help of the family, the staff, the community...
That is the reality of this Caribbean archipelago and in Guantanamo over 93 086 students take in their hands notebooks, pencils and other materials that will help them overcome each day with the essential presence of those who will teach classes without losing sight of essential human values that are palpable also outside the schools.
The academic year begins with more than 700 educational centers and the innovative efforts make easier the operation of a new pedagogical school in the first Villa of Cuba, Baracoa, as well as the reopening of six primary schools in areas of difficult access in a province seriously affected by the mighty hurricane Matthew and with the work of authorities, settlers and the solidarity of the whole nation and friends of other latitudes, education did not stop because despite the difficulties this sector education is a priority for all.
For us it is usual to celebrate the beginning of a new school year; however, in the world more than 200 million children and young people are not in school, according to UNESCO, an organization that has repeatedly recognized the quality of Cuban education as a inclusive model covering all levels of education.
This September four we are very close to the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, with his clear vision that education is the basis of our development. That was the thought of a man who was a teacher.
So, back to school we work to consolidate the transformations and priorities that strengthen the learning in the period beginning today, valid throughout life. Let´s welcome the New School Year.
