The president of the Guantanamo Provincial Defense Council, Denny Legrá Azahares, ordered the immediate dispatch of forces and means (including brigades of telecommunications and electricity linemen) to Maisí, Baracoa and other vulnerable municipalities in eastern territory, facing the imminent danger of Hurricane Irma, category 5, in its route through the Caribbean, in order to reestablish the possible effects of the meteorological phenomenon.
The president of the Guantanamo Provincial Defense Council, Denny Legrá Azahares, ordered the immediate dispatch of forces and means (including brigades of telecommunications and electricity linemen) to Maisí, Baracoa and other vulnerable municipalities in eastern territory, facing the imminent danger of Hurricane Irma, category 5, in its route through the Caribbean, in order to reestablish the possible effects of the meteorological phenomenon.
The measures are based on the experiences of Hurricane Mathew, a meteorological phenomenon that in spite of its destruction left no deaths, epidemics or vandalism in October of last year. "We cannot waste time. It is urgent to take advantage of Wednesday and Thursday in all the tasks in areas potentially threatened again by such an adversity, although the rest of the municipalities also must adhere to the indications," the leader said.
Along with Nancy Acosta Hernández, vice-president of this structure for exceptional situations, in the people´s discipline at the time of evacuation in low, marshy or coastal areas to safe places due to announced sea intrusions, and contribute to the cleaning of pipelines, pruning of trees and protection of lives and goods and fix the ceilings, to prevent that the wind drag the shingles. "All that can be done," he said.
Other measures include the application of the sale of provisions, liberated food, in all cases in extended hours until 8 pm in the commercial network.
Each municipality was reinforced with members of the Provincial Party Bureau, the Board of the Public Administration to comply with and enforce what was established regarding the transfer of animals to high areas, preserve photovoltaic panels and other resources, stop the commercialization in stores and favor blood donations.
The Defense Council and its Commissions also recommended that each family (as indicated in the protection guide) prepare a backpack or bag with clothing, personal grooming, drinking water, medicines, children's milk and show solidarity that characterizes the Cuban people.
