According to information from the Weather Forecast Center of the Meteorology Institute, Irma continues to be an intense category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
It maintains west-northwest route, increasing the translation speed to 28 km / h. At 6:00 am. today its position was located to 310 km to the east-southeast of the Turkey and Caicos Islands and in the morning will move by the seas to the north of Hispaniola, with similar course and little change in its translation speed.
Taking into account its proximity to our country, it was decided to decree the hurricane Alarm Phase for the provinces of Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, Las Tunas, Camagüey and Ciego de Avila, the Alert Phase for Sancti Spíritus, Cienfuegos and Matanzas and the Informative Phase for the provinces Mayabeque, Havana and Artemisa from 11:00 hours. Villa Clara remains in alert phase except the Caibarién municipality which passes to the Alarm Phase.
The state organs and agencies, economic entities and social institutions of the provinces that pass to the Alarm Phase must comply with the actions foreseen in their respective plans, taking into account that the security measures must be increased to limit the people´s movement and means of transport, as well as other life-threatening activities.
It is oriented that the population keep informed about the evolution of this hurricane through the Tropical Cyclone Advisories issued by the Institute of Meteorology and the guidelines of the Civil Defense and to comply with the measures indicated by the local authorities.
