More than half of workers in the civil state sector in Guantanamo are women, who are largely linked to the economy, contribution that enhances the female performance in the province.
They represent 65 percent of teachers in the province, a third of the scientific community and exceed 70 percent among health collaborators in different countries, as well as they form the majority of employees in Brazil.
Women are also involved in the self-employed work, own lands that belong to the National Association of Small Farmers or work in the network of hotels, restaurants and other services to the population.
The number of women in managerial or technical positions increases their autonomy in decision-making, hence they occupy 54 percent of parliamentary seats in this part of Cuba.
The role of women takes shape in the family, since they promote healthy habits and fight against crime and social indiscipline in communities.
Another important fact is that in Guantanamo women exceed 90 percent of the membership of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), grouped into grass-root organizations in the ten municipalities.
