The work of the scientific community of Guantanamo is impressive, it was affirmed in this province by América Santos Rivera, vice-president of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), who highlighted the role of the sector in closing cycle of research, production and trade.
The deputy minister of CITMA stressed that Guantanamo demonstrates that in science there are many solutions to the problems of the country, if you work with intelligence, tenacity and conscience.
These aspects were highlighted by the participants during the exchange with the also deputy minister of CITMA, Danilo Alonso Mederos, who assessed investments executed in weather stations, after the damage caused by weather phenomena.
In this sense, the deputy ministers toured the units of this type located in the Caujerí Valley and the Jamal de Baracoa, aimed at serving the largest vegetable emporium in the province and productive forms dedicated to major crops such as coconut and cocoa, respectively.
In addition, they visited the meteorological station located in Punta de Maisí, a refurbished unit, with an instant data transmission service, a national reference and one of the four in the country that make up the Global Monitoring Network for Climate Change.
During the visit to Guantánamo, the deputy ministers also learned of the actions taken to prevent the mining and illegal trade of species such as the polymita snell, an exclusive terrestrial mollusk from eastern Cuba, in the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, which is threatened by the activity human
Also, in the Department of Baracoa Conservation Park recognized as a World Heritage Site, they appreciated the landscape of Taco Bay, site that is the sanctuary of the manatee, aquatic mammal in danger of extinction.
On the other hand, in the "Ernesto de las Cuevas Morrillo" Archive, they confirmed the conservation of more than 5 thousand notarial deeds of the mid 19th century and work to protect the historical memory of the Cuban First.
