Deputy Minister of Defense, Army General Ramón Espinosa Martín visits some areas affected by the passing of hurricanesA total of 36,743 homes affected by Hurricanes Matthew and Irma have been recovered in Guantanamo province, an amount that represents 83.8% of the damaged.

This was known at a check-up meeting chaired by Army General Ramón Espinosa Martín, member of the Political Bureau and Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Nancy Acosta Hernández, president of the Government in the province, said that 7,079 houses remain to be recovered, the vast majority pertaining to those that suffered total destruction and slightly more than 300 with partial damage. One hundred percent of those who suffered partial or total damage to their roof were already compensated, she said.

77% of the houses were restored through the efforts of the affected families, with the support of neighbors and friends; while the remaining 23% was through the state.

The diversity of means used in the construction of dwellings is what has made such progress possible; among them are the mountain modules, basic cells, combined with bricks and wood, those made of wood, masonry, and multifamily buildings ad well as the style of Venezuelan family houses called petrocasas.

Prior to the meeting, held in the headquarters of the Government in the municipality of Baracoa, Espinosa Martin visited facilities committed to the recovery in the municipality of Maisí, including the Yumurí-Jobo Claro road, which only remains for the finishing of the protective railings, and the mini-industries of construction materials in Sabana, El Lindero and Punta de Maisí, where he urged to increase productive capacity.

The Hero of the Republic of Cuba also visited Los Arados concrete plant (it restarted its production after three months inactive due to a breakdown in its computer), the bus terminal under construction in La Máquina and the community of Lebanese Petrocasas, among other objectives.

For today, also accompanied by Denny Legrá Azahares, a member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Communist Party in Guantanamo, Espinosa Martín plans to visit several facilities in Baracoa, including the breakwater, the Toa bridge, the Neblina-Cayo Güin road and multifamily buildings under construction.
